AVID’s acronym stand for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  AVID is a college preparatory program designed to prepare students for eligibility, acceptance, and success at four year colleges and universities.  Students that are a part of the AVID program are expected to take challenging and rigorous courses in middle and high school. Students in the AVID program must maintain an AVID notebook, class notes, take Cornell Notes, and keep up with all assignments.  AVID students also participate in AVID tutorial groups twice a week and are expected to study two or more hours a day, completing all homework assignments.  Parent(s) of AVID students are to participate in Family Interactive Workshops and other required activities.

Students in the AVID program are also exposed to fun learning activities throughout the school year.  There are several activities that the AVID students will participate in throughout the year such as: college day, presenting college boards, field trips, public speaking, Socratic seminars, and philosophical chairs just to name a few.AVID is an exciting program at Byron Middle School and we look forward to the program growing from year to year.
